Heating mat -EcoDesign

Are you aware of the new EcoDesign regulation for local space heaters?

Did you know that from 1st July 2025 it will no longer be possible to install certain local heating systems if they do not comply with new energy efficiency standards? This is the result of Regulation (EU) 2024/1103, which marks a turning point in the eco-design of space heating appliances.

This European regulation not only imposes stricter energy efficiency requirements, but also opens the door to cleaner and easier to control heating technologies.

Regulation (EU) 2024/1103 establishes EcoDesign requirements for local space heaters, including underfloor and fixed electric local heating systems.

This regulation aims to improve the energy efficiency of heating systems, to reduce indirect CO₂ emissions and to promote the use of technologies compatible with renewable energy sources and intelligent control.

To comply with the regulation, electric heating systems must achieve a minimum seasonal energy efficiency (ηₛ), calculated from the nominal useful efficiency (being 100 % in electric systems), multiplied by a primary energy conversion coefficient (1.9), and other coefficients based on the efficiency of the regulation systems.

Our electric heating systems, both underfloor heating and fixed radiant panels, comply with this new regulation as long as they are controlled by advanced regulation systems. These temperature control and regulation systems must comply with the new regulation:

  • Be electronic and with weekly programming.
  • Provide at least one additional temperature control function to improve efficiency (1. Presence detection / 2. Open window detection / 3. Distance control option / 4. Adaptive start control / 5. Working time limitation / 6. Black bulb sensor / 7. Self-learning function / 8. Control accuracy).
  • Have an off-mode, a standby mode or both.
  • Have very low power consumption levels: in off and standby mode below 0.50 W initially, and below 0.30 W from May 2027.

If you work in installation, distribution or design of heating solutions, rely on our extensive experience and our extensive knowledge of the sector:

  • We will provide you with advice on the details and implications of this new regulation.
  • All our radiant heating systems meet these new criteria. This makes them an environmentally friendly alternative ready for the 2025 market.
  • We have control systems that achieve energy efficiency coefficients higher than those defined in the regulation as ‘Best Available Technologies on the market’.
  • An increasing demand for electric radiant heating systems is foreseen. With the progressive banning of combustion systems, the market will move towards clean and quiet technologies such as electric radiant heating.
